Devotion Notion ribbon angels unite the mystical and spiritual while providing significance and purpose i have often wondered about the awareness ribbons and their meanings. i knew pink represented breast cancer, red AIDS yellow a show of support for troops. it was only in the fall of 2008 when i discovered there were over 50 ribbons with what seemed as endless references to causes. with astonishment, i began a list of the colors that directly affected me. i was especially surprised to learn that pearl was designated for multiple sclerosis. i have ms and i just couldn't wrap it around my head that there would even be an awareness ribbon to represent such a condition. this realization was a turning point for me. i wanted to incorporate these awareness ribbons within my glasswork and the combination of angels and ribbons seemed natural. it was at that time that i began to create what i call devotion, uniting the mystical and spiritual while providing significance and purpose. i now make 18 devotions and for each color, i have chosen one cause which i am connected to and i donate a portion of the proceeds to a non-profit organization associated with that cause. the response has been tremendous, the folks i have met have been heart warming and inspirational. as i make each angel, i keep in mind its various causes and hope that one day there won’t be a need to raise such awareness, provide research or have the need for cures. at the same time, i know there is progress and development and i am at peace with that. and through these devotions, i have the goal of providing some significant purpose to my passion. |
